Terms & Conditions – Fees, Cancellations, Refunds and Rescheduling

1. Booking and Payment

1. A $50 booking fee is required to secure your place in a course.
2. The booking fee may be paid by contacting Health Safety Training and arranging payment by an accepted payment method.
3. The remaining course fee must be paid before training commences on the day of the course.
4. For bookings made through the HST website portal, full payment is required at the time of booking.
5. Where a full course fee has been paid through the website, any applicable refund will be calculated in accordance with this Fees and Refunds Policy.

2. Cancellation by the Student

1. If you cancel your booking 7 days or more before the scheduled course date, HST will refund fees paid, less a $50 administration/preparation and materials fee.
2. If you cancel less than 7 days before the scheduled course date, the $50 booking fee will not be refunded.
3. If you do not attend your scheduled course without providing prior notice, all fees paid may be forfeited.
4. Where only the $50 booking fee has been paid and a student does not attend, HST reserves the right to issue an invoice for any remaining amount payable under the booking.

3. Rescheduling

1. A student may reschedule a booking once without a rescheduling fee where more than 7 days’ notice is provided.
2. Any subsequent rescheduling request will incur a $50 rescheduling fee.
3. Where a student requests to reschedule with less than 7 days’ notice, a $50 rescheduling fee applies.
4. Any outstanding course fees must be paid as required to secure the new booking.
5. Rescheduling is subject to course availability.

4. Course Preparation

Following confirmation of a booking, HST may provide pre-course preparation materials.

These materials are not mandatory unless specifically stated for the particular course. However, HST recommends that students review the materials as they may assist with preparation for training and assessment.

5. Training and Assessment

Courses may include theory, practical training and assessment components, depending on the requirements of the particular course or unit of competency.

Students must participate in the required training and assessment activities and meet the relevant competency requirements.

6. Illness and Genuine Emergencies

HST may consider cancellation or rescheduling requests arising from genuine emergencies, including illness.

HST may request reasonable supporting evidence, such as a medical certificate, before approving the request.

Where an emergency cancellation or rescheduling request is approved:

• the $50 booking fee may be retained; and
• no additional rescheduling fee will apply.

Any decision will be considered based on the circumstances of the individual case.

7. Identification and Required Clothing

Students must bring the identification and other documents required for their particular course.

Students must also wear the clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the course.

If a student does not have the required identification, clothing or PPE, HST may refuse admission to the training or assessment session where the requirements are necessary for safety, compliance or assessment purposes.

A $50 rescheduling fee may apply where the student is unable to participate because they did not meet the required identification, clothing or PPE requirements.

8. Assessment Readiness

If, at the completion of the required training, the student believes they are not ready to undertake the scheduled assessment, or the trainer determines that the student is not yet ready, the scheduled assessment may be deferred.

Where appropriate, the student may undertake the assessment at the following scheduled assessment opportunity, normally one week later, at no additional assessment fee.

This is subject to course and assessment availability and the requirements of the relevant training product.

9. Assessment Re-sit

If a student is unsuccessful in an assessment and wishes to undertake another assessment:

• the reassessment will normally be scheduled at least 7 days after the original assessment;
• the reassessment must normally be completed within 90 days of the original assessment; and
• applicable reassessment fees will apply.

The applicable reassessment fee is:

Full reassessment: $150
Theory assessment only: $80
Practical assessment only: $80

Additional training may be recommended or required where the student has not demonstrated the required competency.

10. Cancellation by Health Safety Training

HST reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course due to unforeseen circumstances, operational requirements, trainer availability, safety issues or other circumstances beyond HST’s reasonable control.

If HST cancels a course:

• fees paid may be refunded in full; or
• the student may choose to transfer/reschedule to another available course without an additional rescheduling fee.

Where HST cancels a course, HST’s liability will be limited to the course fees actually paid to HST, to the extent permitted by law.

11. Certificates and Statements of Attainment

Certificates, Statements of Attainment or other course documentation will be issued in accordance with the applicable training and regulatory requirements.

Where permitted by law and applicable to the service provided, outstanding fees must be paid before HST issues certificates, Statements of Attainment or attendance documentation.

12. Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable Australian consumer protection or other legislation.

Where these Terms & Conditions conflict with a mandatory legal or regulatory requirement, the applicable legal or regulatory requirement will prevail.

13. Acceptance of Terms

By making a booking with Health Safety Training, the student acknowledges that they have read and understood these Terms & Conditions and agree to comply with the applicable booking, payment, cancellation, rescheduling, training and assessment requirements.

Health Safety Training reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The current version will be made available on the HST website.
