Wheeled Front End Loader Operations

Course Description

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively operate a wheeled front end loader for workplace activities such as loading, carrying, moving and placing materials.

The training is suitable for individuals working in construction, civil construction, mining, resources, infrastructure, earthmoving and other site-based environments where front end loader operations are required.

Participants will develop practical skills in planning and preparing for operations, conducting pre-start checks, operating the loader, handling materials, using attachments where applicable, relocating the machine and completing workplace housekeeping activities.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Plan and Prepare for Front End Loader Operations
   • Identify work requirements, site conditions and potential hazards.
   • Review relevant workplace procedures and operating instructions.
   • Conduct pre-start checks and prepare the machine for safe operation.
   • Select appropriate PPE and equipment for the task.
2. Operate the Front End Loader Safely
   • Operate the wheeled front end loader in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturer requirements.
   • Maintain safe control of the machine during operations.
   • Monitor surrounding people, vehicles, equipment and site hazards.
3. Attach, Secure, Lift, Carry and Place Materials
   • Select and handle materials safely.
   • Load, lift, carry and place materials as required for the work activity.
   • Maintain machine stability and control while handling loads.
   • Use appropriate attachments where required.
4. Fit and Remove Attachments
   • Select suitable attachments for the task.
   • Safely fit, secure and remove attachments where applicable.
   • Check attachments before commencing operations.
5. Prepare to Relocate the Front End Loader
   • Prepare the machine for safe relocation.
   • Follow workplace procedures when travelling around the site.
   • Maintain awareness of site conditions, pedestrians and other equipment.
6. Conduct Housekeeping Activities
   • Complete shutdown and parking procedures.
   • Leave the machine and attachments in a safe condition.
   • Clean and secure the work area after completing operations.
   • Identify and report faults, damage or hazards.
